Motivation VS Discipline

new year 2021

“Rather than motivation, discipline is more likely to achieve your goals.”

I don’t remember who said this piece of quote and these might not be the exact words either. I read it somewhere over the internet or heard it in a tv series.

Since motivation is based on feelings, they can subside at anytime. You feel motivated one second and next second, it’s possible that you don’t. Discipline, on the other hand, is the continuous practice of hard work which will give you the favourable outcome of your goal.

Of course we need a pat on the back sometimes and being human, we tend to rely on our emotions. Although it is okay to occasionally seek for some drive that could help you succeed, I don’t think it’s good to dwell on it.

It’s not entirely wrong for people to want to feel motivated. However, I think the word ‘motivation’ is overused in past few years. It has become an ornate word to make us feel better in certain situation but only for a small amount of time. Sooner or later, the motivated feeling fleets. So it’s better to discipline ourselves to attain the goal.
